The Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupe, produced from 1962 to 1967, is an iconic classic car that represents the epitome of luxury and style. This two-door coupe was one of the most elegant and expensive models of its time, and it remains a highly sought-after vehicle by collectors and enthusiasts today.
One of the key features of the 300 SE Coupe is its design. The car boasted a sleek and timeless appearance, with a long and low hood, a distinctive chrome grille, and a graceful roofline that sloped gently towards the rear. The coupe is also fitted with a number of high-end details, such as chrome trim, elegant badges, and luxurious leather interior.
Under the hood, the 300 SE Coupe is powered by a robust 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder M189 engine that produced 160 horsepower and 251 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, providing a smooth and powerful driving experience. The big six-cylinder not only received its own W112 code, but also dual disc brakes on all wheels. The alloy block with press-fit cylinder liners dropped its weight by a considerable 40 kg. Fuel injection was handled by a Bosch two-piston pump.
Another notable feature of the 300 SE Coupe is its advanced suspension system. The car is equipped with an air suspension that automatically adjusted to the road conditions, providing a comfortable ride and excellent handling. The suspension also features a self-leveling system, which helped to maintain a consistent ride height even when the car was heavily loaded. It also offers newly developed power steering.
Inside the cabin, the 300 SE Coupe is a true luxury car. The car's leather seats are both comfortable and supportive, and the interior is finished with high-quality materials such as wood trim and plush carpeting. The car is also fitted with a range of modern features for its time, including air conditioning, and a sophisticated audio system. The 300 SE was finished with a higher level of wood and leather trim than the W111.
Despite its many high-end features, the 300 SE Coupe was not just a showpiece. The car is also a capable performer, with a top speed of over 175 kilometres per hour and the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in around 10 seconds. This made the car a favorite of both drivers and passengers alike, combining speed and comfort in a way that few other vehicles of the era could match. The car cost almost twice the price of the top-range W111 220SE. With no equal or superior in the Mercedes line, the coupe W112s enjoyed a somewhat elevated status through their model runs.
Today, the 300 SE Coupe remains a classic example of Mercedes-Benz engineering and design. With its elegant styling, powerful engine, and advanced suspension system, this car is a true icon of automotive history, and a testament to the enduring appeal of luxury and performance. Whether you're a collector, an enthusiast, or simply a fan of classic cars, the 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupe is a car that should not be missed.
This 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300SE is a European-market coupe that is said to have been sold new in Germany and subsequently was imported from Greece to Canada by the second owner. In the early 1980s the car was acquired by the third owner, who owned the car for the last 40 years!
Power is provided by a 3.0-liter M189 inline-six equipped with fuel injection and mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The body is finished in cream, and the car is equipped with European-spec headlights, a brown leather interior, and 14″ wheels. This W112 is now offered in Canada with transferable British Columbia registration.
Finished from the factory in white with a weissgrau roof, the pillarless body has been refinished in the current cream color.
A matching spare equipped with a Riken tire is located in the trunk. The car factory fitted with power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes and air suspension.
The cabin is newly re-upholstered in brown leather with a matching dash pad and door panels.
