History

There is no need to introduce Ferrari Testarossa (Type F110). This iconic vehicle from 80ties is well know and cherished by automotive fans, that it basically lives up from its name. This 12-cylinder mid-engine sports car went into production in 1984 as the successor of Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer, but was much more advanced in terms of design and technique.

Testarossa was lighter than its predecessor (512BB), but wider and bigger. The body was unusually for a production Ferrari made of aluminium (besides steel doors and roof). Well equipped cabin of Testarossa points out particularly pleasant ambience – for example there is sound system, air condition, tilting steering wheel and for sure plentiful leather.

Real gem in form of 4,9-liter flat twelve-cylinder engine is positioned at rear-mid of vehicle (between axles, but behind the cabin). All versions of car had five-speed manual gearbox mounted at the back of the car. Engine was very powerful and its placement contributed to keeping the centre of gravity in the middle of the car, which increase stability and improves the car´s cornering ability (weight distribution of 40 % front and 60 % at the rear.

Base of the car is formed by tubular steel frame. Independent suspension consisted of unequal-long wishbones, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bar on both axles. At the rear, there are twin dampers on each side. The entire drive train and suspension was designed to be removed as a unit from underneath the car, so the engine and timing belts could be serviced. In the mid of 1988, Ferrari changed the „knockoff“ wheel design to standard Ferrari five bolt pattern.

All this together means, that Testarossa is relatively easy to drive, has outstanding performance and stunning looks. It all contributed to an instant and sustained high level of demand.

Production run of Pininfarina-designed car was originally from 1984 to 1991, with two model revision after the end of production: first one is called 512 TR (1992 to 1994) and second F512 M, produced from 1994 to 1996.

Numbers/market position

Testarossa and its derivates were really successful models, meaning that Ferrari did built lots of cars. There were 7177 original Testarossa, then another 2261 pieces of 512 TR and finally 501 pieces of F512 M. If you put those numbers together, you will get total production of 9939 cars.

Classic (first) Testarossa shows the highest increase in value and this extremely original a nicely treated specimen is unique offer.

Problems

As usual, a classic Ferrari requires care and regular service, which is essential. Then it can repay with reliable operation. A cold car is prone to clutch wear and the transmission requires warm-up before it can shift nicely. Fuel lines can cause some problems, but when talking about car with complete service history, there´s no need to worry.

Particular vehicle

If you are looking for cool Testarossa with no catch, you found it. This specimen with chassis number ZFFAA17B000079832 and matching numbers has everything proper Testarossa should have. Meaning only three owners, low mileage (43 017 km), certifications from Ferrari Classiche (red book) and A.S.I. registration and for sure complete service history.

It was first registered in Italy in 1989, after spend some time with second owner and in 2019 was transferred to Czech Republic. Current owner has beautiful collection of classic and breed his cars nicely, so there are no concerns about status of car. In May 2016, the car received its last major service at Ferrari Exeter, which entailed cam belt change.

Testarossa is equipped with original Blaupunkt radio with cassette player, so new owner can enjoy even this feature, which will take him back to 80ties. But for sure, better sound come from easily revving engine through beautiful sounding exhaust system. The vehicle is also equipped with original tools and amazingly, a Ferrari Classiche Red Book, rarely seen due to its very high costs. The Classiche confirms not only that the car is matching numbers, but also that it is very original in every aspect. The car is now registered at UK´s papers, but there is no problem to register it anywhere.

Amazing, driver´s friendly machine, which excels in feeling of raw power and can be normally driven even at long distances. Strange, but true (we know).
